In an ideal world, if your friend borrowed your car and crashed, then they would be responsible for the damages. In an ideal world, it would fall to their insurance company to have to cover the costs.
And unfortunately, we do not live in this ideal world. If you allow a friend to borrow your car and they get into an accident and damage your vehicle (or worse, someone else or their property/vehicle), then it will land on your car insurance policy to pay for the damages.
